Seminar on modularisation and modular design – Efficiently designing scalable and modular product architectures

  • 9.11.2026-10.11.2026
  • RWTH Aachen Campus, Cluster Produktionstechnik, Campus-Boulevard 30, 52074 Aachen
  • 1295,00 EUR

For years, the variety of variants in manufacturing companies has been increasing. This enormous variety of variants results in a high degree of complexity and associated costs. Successful complexity management and, in particular, modular product kits can reduce internal variant diversity without eliminating important configurations for the customer. In this seminar, you will learn how to develop a modular system for your company. The methodological approach will be illustrated with numerous practical examples and applied to your products in the workshop.

Event description

In this seminar, you will first learn about the basics and strategies of complexity management. The goal is to achieve the greatest possible external diversity of customer configurations with the least possible internal diversity of components and modules. The key to this is a modular design concept. You will learn four steps for developing a modular construction concept, starting with market and customer analysis as well as product and process analysis. After the two steps of the analysis phase, standards and the necessary variety of variants are defined based on this. Finally, the configuration logic is developed, which enables you to automatically assemble the modules of your products depending on the customer's selection. However, modular systems do not end with concept development. Therefore, the organisational anchoring of the modular strategy and the control of the modular system are also addressed. Our experts present success factors for modular design identified from practical examples, and in the workshop you will deepen what you have learned through direct application.

By participating in the seminar, you will learn...:

  • the basics of complexity management
  • the procedure for developing a modular concept
  • how to systematically analyse the market and customer perspective
  • how to analyse your existing products and processes
  • which methods you can use to plan standards and variance
  • how to transfer your concept into a configurator
  • many practical examples
  • how to successfully anchor and control your modular concept
