The future of sustainable industrial production lies in mastering the circular economy. Against the background of the necessary reduction in energy and resource consumption, the approaches of overcapacity and overproduction must be replaced by sustainable thinking in material cycles. This requires new, interdisciplinary approaches, processes and tools. In the seminar, you will learn the basics and methods for the holistic and sustainability-oriented creation and development of products as well as the management of the product life cycle.

Life cycle management must be designed systemically in order to understand and design circular business models, sustainable product concepts, resource-conserving production structures, long-term use of products and efficient reuse of materials. In the seminar, you will first learn about the fundamentals and strategies of the circular economy and the implications for the product life cycle. Methods for analysis, control and implementation in the individual life cycle phases will be presented and discussed with you in greater depth. As part of product planning, the focus is on explaining methods for data-based recording and analysis of customer requirements, for segmenting markets and for transferring market features to technical product characteristics. The product creation phase comprises the development and production of products. The systematic structuring and evaluation of products using modular product architectures is discussed. At the same time, you will learn about the possibilities for managing products and product portfolios using configuration knowledge. In the context of product usage, you will be introduced to methods that enable a targeted analysis of usage data and the derivation of implications for product improvement. The possibilities for value-enhancing extension of product utilization through the creation of continuous innovations will be demonstrated. Finally, product return and methods for developing different return strategies such as reuse, repair, remanufacturing or recycling are discussed and approaches for designing small cycles are presented. Finally, relevant roles and structures for organizational and system-side anchoring are presented. In interactive presentations and workshops, case studies for holistic life cycle management in the sense of the circular economy will be discussed. We will present success factors identified from practical examples and in the workshop you will deepen what you have learned through direct application.
