Seminar Modularization & modular design

  • 05.11.2025 - 06.11.2025
  • RWTH Aachen Campus, Cluster Produktionstechnik, Campus-Boulevard 30, 52074 Aachen
  • 1295,00 EUR

The number of variants in manufacturing companies has been increasing for years. This enormous number of variants leads to great complexity and the associated costs. Successful complexity management, and modular product kits in particular, can reduce the number of internal variants without eliminating important configurations for the customer. In the seminar, you will learn how to develop a modular system for your company. The methodical approach will be illustrated with numerous practical examples and applied to your products in the workshop.

Event description

In the seminar, you will first learn the basics and strategies of complexity management. The aim is to be able to realize the greatest possible external variety of customer configurations with the smallest possible internal variety of components and modules. The key to this is a modular concept. You will be introduced to four steps in the development of a modular concept: starting with the market and customer analysis as well as the product and process analysis. After the two steps of the analysis phase, standards and the necessary number of variants are defined. Finally, the configuration logic is developed, which enables you to automatically assemble the modules of your products depending on the customer's selection. However, construction kits do not end with concept development. Therefore, the organizational anchoring of the modular strategy and the management of the modular system are also addressed. Our experts will present success factors identified from practical examples for modular design and in the workshop you will deepen what you have learned through direct application.

By attending the seminar you will learn...:

  • the basics of complexity management
  • the procedure for developing a modular concept
  • how to systematically analyze the market and customer perspective
  • how to analyze your existing products and processes
  • which methods you can use to plan standards and variance
  • how to transfer your concept into a configurator
  • know many examples from practice
  • how to successfully anchor and manage your modular concept
